2002 M Coupe | Steel Gray | Gray/Black

These excellent M Coupe photos were posted on graphicsdump.wordpress.com. The only thing posted with the photos is “photoshoot for a client”. There were only 46 Steel Gray over Gray/Black M Coupes made for NA, of which 38 have a sunroof like this one. It looks in the first image like this M Coupe has a sunroof. The thing that stands out the most are the wheels. My favorite – Kinesis K58s. I’m aware of only a few Coupes that have Kinesis K5Xs, and only one that is Steel Gray. Additionally, curved Super Sprint DTM exhaust tips are visible. That said, I think this must be Andrew’s fine specimen. Or, is there a duplicate out there? I doubt it. Let us know, Andrew! Mystery solved in the comments below. Thanks for posting Andrew and Scott!

  1. I’m pretty sure it has to be Andrew’s because those wheels are painted rather than shotpeened which is rare too. It also seems like he had a “coupe” sticker on the doorsill to imitate the 1999s too. By the way, his is a MK Motorsport exhaust from Germany.

They look too “matte” to have been painted. They seem shotpeened to me. I do remember now that the tips are not round when looking straight on, but oval. I should have remembered that it wasn’t SuperSprint, as they are round.

    Fellow Coupers,

It’s not me but surprised to know that it now makes three of us Steel Gray Coupes wearing Kinesis K5s:

    Mine on 19x9f, 19×10.5r K59s
    Buhx2’s on 18x8f, 18x11r K58s
…and now this example. It’s also the first time I’ve seen this one as well.

Jon, I actually think those are shot peened although it’s hard to say based on those photos. The images definitely appear to have gone through some post-processing so you can’t really see the grainy nature of the shot-peen finish. Painted centers would have more gloss/reflection than what those pictures represent.

I’m pretty surprised that it’s not yours! Crazy that there are 3 SG M Coupes with Kinesis K5s out there.

  3. Man, I just can’t stop looking at that profile shot. Also noticed he doesn’t have the front mud flaps like he usually does.

  4. After comparing the photos to Andrew’s profile shots these look like 18s rather than his 19s. What do you think?

  5. Hi guys! I shot those photos in 2009 for a friend of a friend. The wife of the owner of the car wanted to do something special for him for Christmas and his car is his baby so she thought a cool photo session would make a nice gift. I don’t know the guy’s first name but his last name is Mercadante and he lives in Orange County, California.
