1999 M Coupe | Imola Red

1999 M Coupe | Imola Red | Authobahn Country Clun Joliet, Illinois

I like this shot of an M Coupe at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL I stumbled across posted on flickr.com by mattmagnino. Based upon the single image, it appears to be a 1999 with an S52 under the hood given that it has non-chrome trim ringed headlights, and non-chrome trimmed kidney grille slats, along with flat M badges and Hyper Silver Roadstars. The sunroof equipped Coupe appears to be all stock.

1998 M Coupe | Dakar Yellow | Gray/Black

1998 M Coupe | Dakar Yellow | Gray/Black

This M Coupe was submitted by Hans Winkler of Regensburg, Germany. I’ve posted photos of Hans’ Coupe before, it’s a great looking Coupe! Mods include: KW V3 suspension, 18″ Style 67 E46 M3 wheels, 15mm (F), 20mm (R) spacers, PFC-06 Brake Pads, Goodridge SS brake lines, and Powerflex bushings, and looking at the interior photo it appears that he has an Alcantara wrapped shift knob, a rewrapped steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and an aftermarket head unit.

S54B32 M Coupe | Imola Red | Black

S54B32 M Coupe | Imola Red | Black | 46-NZ-JB

This M Coupe was posted on autogespot.com by Ferrari Fan after spotting it in Culemborg, Netherlands. Based upon what is visible, this sunroof delete Coupe is all stock. The Roadsars appear to be Chrome Shadow, which leads me to believe this is an 01 or 02 with an S54 under the hood. There are said to have been only 284 LHD European S54 M Coupes produced. That said this must be a pretty rare color and option combo for the market. In the US there were 678 S54 M Coupes produced, of which 19 were Imola over black (183 total Imola/Black), with only 1 of them sold without a sunroof. It’s possible that this is not an S54 M Coupe, but given what I can see in the photos, I believe it is. If you happen to recognize the Coupe, or it’s plate (46-NZ-JB), please post in the comments.

Road Trip — Phoenix, AZ to Las Vegas, NV | 2002 M Coupe | Laguna Seca Blue | Black

Road Trip —  Phoenix, AZ to Las Vegas, NV | 2002 M Coupe | Laguna Seca Blue | Black | Nothing, AZ

To celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and my wife’s 30th birthday, we left the kids with our family and drove the Coupe to Las Vegas for a long weekend. I prepared for a variety of potential issues with the Coupe, but we were very fortunate to have none at all. The Coupe was an excellent road trip car, and very comfortable for the 5 hour drive. Not that I should be surprised as we bought my first M Coupe from Rowland Heights, CA and drove it home. The bulk of the drive to Las Vegas is a 2 lane highway through scenic desert with lots of opportunity to enjoy the drive. Friday on the way up to Vegas though, we were stuck behind a caravan of RVs that were poking along 5-10 under the speed limit. As soon as there was a passing lane open, we easily blasted past the slow traffic. We stopped for some quick photos in Nothing, AZ, mostly because of the irony of the name. We had a great trip, and a good warm up for our drive to Dorkfest in August!

S54B32 M Coupe | Estoril Blue | Estoril/Black

S54B32 BMW Z3 M Coupe | Estoril Blue | Estoril/Black | Z3 M Coupe and Z4 M Coupe Side by Side Comparison

This M Coupe was posted on mad4wheels.com among a gallery of a 2006 Z4 M Coupe. My brother tipped me off to these photos, which had been posted on another site, but seem to have originated on mad4wheels.com. It’s always interesting seeing the M Coupe and a Z4 M Coupe side by side. I like the general profile of the Z4 M Coupe, but the transition from the fender to the door kills it for me. It looks like the sunken cheeks of a meth addict. 😉 I’m also not a fan of the front end. It’s so “squarish”, almost flat. The wide kidney grilles look off to me as well, especially compared to the original M Coupe kidney grilles. Something about the taillights looks off to me, too, but I can’t really say what it is. Holistically, I like the overall design of the Z4 M Coupe, but I’m just being nitpicky about the other design elements. That, and I’m a diehard E36/8 fanatic, and love the entire design of the Clown Shoe. Based upon the chrome trim ringed headlights, chrome trimmed kidney grille slats, curved M badges, and Chrome Shadow Roadstars this is an 01 or 02 M Coupe with an S54 under the hood. I wasn’t certain whether the interior color was Black or Estoril/Black, so I searched around for the GBZ 3 plate shown on the Coupe in these photos. I found photos of the same Coupe in an issue of BMW Car magazine which showed an Estoril/Black interior posted on z3mcoupe.com.
